100 CPU Usage: Steps to Repairing 100 CPU Usage Errors for Your Computer

What Is a Windows 100 CPU Usage Error?

If your computer is running slower than usual, or in some instances, extremely slow, then your CPU usage may be maxed or spiking to 100. When this happens on a consistent basis without repairing itself, it can make your computer ‘lock up ‘or slow down beyond use. Without repair, your computer may freeze, shut down, and have installation errors or start up problems.

What Causes a Windows 100 CPU Usage Error?

A 100 CPU Usage error can be caused by a virus, malicious software, or spyware. These are typically the most obvious causes; however, the error could also be due to an issue with an honest software program installed on your computer.

How to Fix a Windows 100 CPU Usage Error

There are couple options to fixing a 100 CPU Usage error, depending on what the root cause of the issue is. First determine if it’s a virus causing the problem by using Solution 1. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, try Solution 2.

Solution 1: Install and Run Anti-virus or Spyware programs.

  1. Begin by closing any programs your computer is running.
  2. Install an anti-virus or spy-catching software program if you don’t already have one.
  3. Follow the instructions of the software program and run a full virus scan.
  4. Follow the instructions of the software program to remove all identified malware or viruses.
  5. Set the program to run every week on your computer.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. After your computer restarts, the 100 CPU Usage Error should be resolved.

Solution 2: Identify the Software Program on Your Computer that’s causing the Issue.

  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to get your Task Manager to appear. (For Windows 2000, do the same and select ‘Task Manager’.)
  2. Click on the Processes tab in the Task Manager Box.
  3. Look at the very bottom of the Task Manager box. It will tell you the total CPU usage for your computer at that moment. A normal range for an idle computer is 2-7%, though it’s common for it to fluctuate a lot.
  4. Review the CPU column of the Processes tab. It will show you the available CPU that each software program is running.
  5. Look through the CPU column for any program with a high CPU usage. It will stand out when compared to the other programs in the list.
  6. Remove any program with a high CPU usage. If it’s a critical program, look for a software update or fix for the program.
  7. Restart your computer.

One of these solutions should resolve a high or 100 CPU Usage Error for a faster running computer. Good luck!
